Magic Kingdom, Orlando, Tuesday Morning

Anders squinted up at the castle he and Dante were now one very, very long line from being allowed to walk through. "What's the point of a castle nobody lives in?" he asked, not for the first time.

It had been a day and a half stuck in the car together, a day and a half of fast food and arguments over music and endless games of 20 questions. Anders was still excited to be at Disney, but he was almost as excited not to be in the car anymore.

(But he hadn't gotten carsick on the way south. That, at least was something to be proud of.)

"It does," Dante said. "Like a big ol' party of consumerism and shit."

He looked up at the castle as they shuffled their way closer to the entrance. "It's kinda pretty, though."

"Very," Anders agreed, staring up at it, and surprised himself by saying, "Makes me almost wish I could take you home. We have a few nice buildings in between all the dog shit and mud."

"Really?" Dante said, shooting Anders a curious look. "Usually all you say is that it's crap."

"It's complete crap," Anders agreed firmly. "But we know how to build a castle. Even Circle Tower's pretty, if you're lucky enough to be looking at it from a distance."

"Not sure if I'm a big fan of that kind of pretty," Dante said, pulling a face. "Think I'm gonna stick with this castle, they don't lock people in it for no reason."

"That's the problem with real castles," Anders said philosophically. "Maybe it is better this one's just pretend."

"Well, we're about to find out," Dante said, as the next person in line stepped through and left them with an unobstructed view of the entrance. "Got your ticket?"

Anders smiled and held it up. "Right here," he said. "Do you know what you want to do first?"

"No clue," Dante said merrily. "Never been to a theme park before."

"Me either," Anders reminded him, unnecessarily, as he scanned the area. "Hmmm. Ride with a terribly long line, ride with an extraordinarily long line, or pictures with that girl in a princess costume?"

"Would've gone for the last one if she'd been one of the hot princesses," Dante sniffed. "Nah, let's go for the one with a long line. Space Mountain, right? I heard about something like that."

"It sounds familiar," Anders agreed, and shuffled toward the line. "I've never been on a big ride like this. Might be fun."

"And if it's terrible, we can always find out if there's anywhere in this place that serves booze," Dante said philosophically, "Maybe track down one of the hotter princesses..."

"Probably it'd make a nice change from being hit on by dads with bald spots," Anders said, also philosophic.

"We are a lot prettier," Dante said, tossing him an easy wink. "Might have to beat the princesses off with a stick."

"Do they like being beaten with sticks?" Anders mused. "Never heard that about princesses."

The line, as lines do, shuffled forward.

"Depends on the princess," Dante said, poking him gently in the side.
