33 Apocalypse Ave, Tuesday Afternoon

For Anders the little demon, Halloween was a day full of his usual mischief. Sprinkling a little itching powder in some underwear drawers, sneaking into a few houses to turn the thermostat three degrees too hot, and -- just to cap off the day -- blowing on some mainland traffic lights to turn them red at inconvenient times.

He was still chuckling over the last one as he let himself into the house and sat down on the couch, tail extended along the cushions. He needed to take a TV break before it was time for trick-or-treating and some real fun.

Because the island was visited by small children on the regular? Why wouldn't she be prepared?

"Priiiiiiiiiincsssssssssss," Kathy groaned happily, the word a little mushy in her mouth. She clapped her hands, the parties momentarily forgotten. "Meeeeeeeee?"

Was it a zombie princess, Dante?

"... sure, Kathy the zombie princess lived in this castle."

This was already shaping up to be an excellent story! And, of course, Kathy had to ask the next very important questions.

No, not about any princes or whatever. Please. Girl had her priorities.

"Braaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiins?"

"No brains," Dante said, sighing. "Zombie Kathy was a good girl and a vegetarian."

...This seemed incredibly unlikely.

"Braaaains," she told him. Skeptically.

"Plant brains," Dante said firmly. "She was having a nice breakfast full of plant brains."

Kathy looked dubious, but nodded. She might have to look into these 'plant brains' and see how good they were. Not as good as human brains, obviously, and probably not as good as animal ones, but at least worth a try.

She motioned him to go on. "Daaaaaaaaanteeeeee?"

Was he in the story, too?

Anders held the controller over his head, moving it just fast enough that Kathy wouldn't be able to reach it. "Ah-ah-ah," he chided. "Naughty. Nice girls say please."

And as a demon, he was obviously an expert in manners.

"I'm having a great day," Anders said breezily. "Want to go out? We could throw rotten eggs at people until we feel better."

"You want me to read this, or you just want me to start making shit up?" Dante asked.

"You know, think I'm gonna opt o-- well, maybe Lecter."

No. Bad!

"But I like him," Anders whined, then furrowed his brow thoughtfully. "On the other hand, it would be fun to run some of those expensive clothes."

It was a dilemma!

"Go for the clothes," Dante said sagely. "You know you wanna."

In his defense, he was actually part-demon in real life.

Well, if he was gonna give her the choice?

"Maaaaake uuuuup?" she asked, hopefully.

"It's a deal," Anders nodded, but his eyes slid toward Kathy. "We can put on some autopsy videos to distract her while we're out."

"No way," Dante said, wincing. "We're locking her up."

And her baleful expression suggested as much. But she'd play it his way.

"Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?" she asked, making grabby hands at the remote.

"Then okay, fine, there's a Dante showing up in Princess Kathy's tower, and her whole life gets a lot less boring."

Master storyteller, he was not.

Okay, when even the zombie was unimpressed that was saying something. She kept looking at him, waiting for him to embellish.

"Fine," Anders agreed. "... maybe lock her up but with hunting videos playing?"

[not_every_mage]

"Pretty please with sugar on top?" Anders suggested, still waving the remote just out of her (very slow) reach.

If they waited for her to say all of that, the episode would be over and a new one started.

"Prettyyyyyy pleeeeeeease?" she groaned. A compromise?

"Fine, he breaks her out of the castle," Dante said, rolling his eyes. "They bring tons of lettuce for her on the way. He heard about this dragon or something that could only be killed by a princess."

"Why are you so stuck on these videos?" Dante asked. Beat. "Could ask you 'why are you a tiny red thing' too, but..."

"Braaaaains," Kathy said, nodding smugly. Obviously the princess needed to eat the dragon's brains!

...Or maybe she was suggesting the princess was smart enough to outwit him. But that seemed very unlikely.
