33 Apocalypse Ave, Late Sunday Afternoon

Anders' cooking skills mostly stalled out at grilled cheese and cans of soup, but the holiday season and its influx of guests had him wanting to try something new. (He was going to blame it on Kathy's influence.) He stopped by Turtle & Canary for supplies and then set up a baking station in the kitchen.

First on the list of things to try: cornflake Christmas wreaths. They seemed easy right up to the part where he started trying to shape the melted marshmallows and cereal into wreaths and found out exactly how fast a mage could get marshmallow all over every surface in the kitchen.

"Enough to think that this is hilarious," Kathy assured her. "And not enough to let you and Dante anywhere near my jello molds."

Anders gave her a grateful look. "It depends," he said. "How are you at keeping marshmallow from sticking to everything?"

"Food coloring," Anders said. "I'm not totally convinced it won't make us sick, but it's supposed to be festive."

"Bet you I can," Anders whispered back, and relaxed into the kiss. "Mmm, you taste like marshmallows."

"I'll save that for after the guests go home," Anders murmured against her lips, and then he was too distracted by the kiss to say anything more. HIs hands were sticky as he rested fingertips on her hips.

"Shaped like boobs," Raven said. "You have a very strange mind."

"That's for the best. Dante's taste in jello is creepy."

"I mean, the whole point of food coloring is that it's edible," Raven pointed out. "People were pretty excited when they were first invented."

The 20th century was a wild, strange time in food technology.

"Y' got flour an' wax paper?" Ada asked, starting to peep into cabinets. "I dunno about cleaning this up, but we c'n get th' rest of 'em done up just fine."

"They're tasty," Dante said, grinning at him. "You could just stop makin' cookies and we'll eat all the stuff that goes in 'em."

"Nah, I mean like meat jello made in a pineapple mold," Dante said. "No better than the boob."

"When is that again?" Kathy teased, when she finally pulled away. She was flushed and the kitchen was lot warmer than it had been a moment ago. "Kidding. They're welcome to stay, even if that means I have to put off my 'Magic in the Kitchen' fantasy until the New Year."

"Don't you kinkshame my boyfriend," Kathy said, struggling (and failing) to keep a straight face. "What we get up to upstairs..."

"You know there's a reason why I didn't go back to the fifties. And it's meat jello."

"Is deeply unhygienic," Raven teased. "You guys should be ashamed."

"If I told you once, I told you a thousand times," Kathy said airily. "Don't knock cat toys until you've tried them. And it's not like we give them back to the cats!"

Kathy had no idea what the hell she was talking it, but she wasn't about to let that stop her.

"Oh, right, I forgot you were from then," Dante said. "Man, I'm sorry."

"If you start coughing up hairballs," Raven said. "I may have to disown you."

Raven shrugged. "It's alright. I forget it sometimes, too."

"You're going to have to tell me more about that one," Anders said, waggling his eyebrows and grinning as he stepped back. "Do I get to put on a light show? Maybe get creative with my potions?"

"Really?" Anders frowned. "I don't get it. What was wrong with the colors food was to start with?"

"I think so," Anders hazarded. "Check the next cabinet to the right for the flour, and I'll get the wax paper."

He bent to pull it out from under the sink. "I don't think I knew you cooked."

"When you basically boil everything, stuff looks pretty gross."

"There's better stuff than marshmallows to eat if we're doing that," Anders said gesturing to the bag of chocolate chips on the counter.

Anders made a face. "That was how we ate at home. Meat, potatoes and boiled things."
