Fandom Radio, Friday, August 15, 2025

Good morning, everyone, it's Steve Rogers. I'm back from New York--the dogs had an appointment last Friday--and I'd like to thank the other Steve for taking over last week even if he was voluntold rather than volunteered.

*chittering*

He was pressed into service, huh? Navy joke. Nice. Let's get to the notes.

In classes, Raiden took us to Japan to try pizza, which Arden and I bravely did, before getting a chance to explore Tokyo. Arden was bringing a strawberry sandwich back and that was probably a better choice than our pizza. Finding New Hobbies made friendship bracelets. Well, Anakin wasn't making any, but Steven showed Luma that he'd made one that said 'husband' on it for Watts and also one for Marc, who he shares a body with.

*pause*

So he's making himself a friendship bracelet? Neat! Liliana continued to expose Urza and his terrible decisions to a Fandom audience before judging his choices and lack of preparation. Ignis stopped by after class to offer support for Liliana's frustration that she is running out of time to explain just how terrible Urza was before pivoting to figuring out what she should teach next semester to get the good rooms for the school trip.

*laughter*

I love that. Finally, the gremlins were making blackout poetry at the library.

In town, Liz was being "mostly productive" at the Photo Hut and in August, that's probably the best we can hope for, isn't it? Luma was working off a bad mood at Pixie Dust through retail therapy, and Steph was trying to tamp down gremlin anger at a game they were playing at Android's Dungeon. Harley went to the museum wanting to know what Steven said to Marc to cause him to dump her, Steven eventually went with "I was honest" as an answer and...well, it went downhill pretty quickly with accusations of not being listened to, not wanting to hear negative feedback, being too hurt to accept kindness, and being, quote, "condescending as shit." Steven called Liliana over after Harley left and gave her a summary of the whole mess, which I appreciate since I think I was a dog at the time. Basically, it seems, Harley didn't like Steven and Watts, Marc didn't like that she didn't like Steven and Watts, and it became a dealbreaker in Harley and Marc's relationship. Liliana wanted to know why Marc wasn't talking to Harley about any of this, but apparently he's "giving her space." But don't he and Steven share a--so he was also at--you know what, it's none of my business.

Thor was mixing up piña coladas at the Devil's Nest, Atton and his lightsabers met up with Rey in the park and talk Jedi, and the Supper Club became the Brunch Club to enjoy breakfast foods and mimosas at Raiden's new restaurant, Over Easy. Henry got introduced to the idea of brunch, and then punch--he's from the Middle Ages, so it's a lot to catch up on--and Rey got an earful from Lydia about how unhappy she was to go flying into the ocean yesterday before she and Lydia talked about mimosas with Flint.

And that's everything from me! Have a great weekend.

Plant Parenthood; Friday [08/15].

Luma hadn't come back to the room yesterday after her work shift, but Eleanor didn't think too much about it. That had been pretty common, really, and unsurprising. Sometimes, she just liked to spend a night as a wolf in the woods, sometimes a few days, but she'd always come back desperate for a shower, so, after the debacle that was Wednesday's shenanigans, Eleanor thought she could at least make sure that she had a few good soaps and body scrubs picked out for her for when she got back.

Eventually, maybe, Luma would appreciate those little things, but Eleanor was happy to do it until she did.

She'd also brought in one of her own plants today, because one of her sage plants had been struggling a little. So, in between various tasks and helping customers, she was also doing what she could to plumb from Plant Parenthood's resources to sort of revive and resuscitate it, marveling how, probably not even a year ago, she wouldn't have even known where to even start, but could now do it almost effortlessly. And it was heartening, to see that kind of progress.

Plant Parenthood is open!

Drama in the Park-a-Rama [Friday, Period One]

The park looked ominously more like it was set up for shenanigans, with racks of foam weapons set up around an inflatable boxing ring.

"Our director thinks you need to learn stunts," Cara said, with a truly ambivalent air about her, because on the one hand fighting, on the other did this even really count?

"To go along with the stunt driving we did," Jane added. "We think. It's sort of hard to get a straight answer out of him. "But this seemed to be the safest way to accomplish it."

"The point is to look impressive and not actually hurt each other, so the opposite of normal fighting."

"Be safe anyway," Jane added quickly. Because they didn't want to deal with the Moose about it and be assigned an even worse class next time.

There were so many terrible things the moose could inflict upon them.

Rey's warehouse- Friday afternoon

It was a very complicated week! There wasn't anything bad, but Rey's head was in a lot of different places, sometimes all at once. That meant that this morning she very much took it all out on the course, and then cracked open the snack locker to set things out in the little seating area she'd made out of crates.

It was going to be that kind of day.

The Park, Friday Afternoon

Right, so after yesterday's Supper Club, Henry had done what he should have done ages ago and bartered his way into a little notebook. Yes, his own writing was chicken scratch at the best of times, but he could doodle just fine, and--

Well, it would help him keep track. Of things. If that was even necessary, considering-- best not to dwell on the surreality of all of it.

And now he had a booklet, and a growing confidence in leaving the castle, so. He was leaving the castle to go for a bit of a stroll. He'd noticed unusual flowers 'round here, and he was curious - what were they? Were any of them useful? And some of them were quite beautiful, as well.

... Yes, he got distracted by the park, barely a few minutes into his journey. He would now be found standing on the grass, or squatted on the floor, or just leaning in curiously to eye a flower, sketching all the while.

His notebook was likely going to be full before he could make real use of it. Oh well.

Needful Things; Friday

The previous day's museum visit having gone the way it had, there was really only one thing for Harley to do...

Throw herself full throttle into her heist plans!!

Sure, there were other things she could've tried to do, too, but the top one was both too terrifying and she was sure Steven was too busy continuing to be self-righteous and licking his wounds and doing absolutely no genuine self-reflection whatsoever - and most importantly, holding onto the body all through that - for her to even make an attempt at the thing right then, so. Heist plans it was!

She had a map of the mainland spread out on the floor in the middle of the still-empty store. And at each corner of the map, there were offerings of rum. She could remember about the squirrels when it counted, and crime really counted! She had a marker, and she had her phone, and she was marking the locations of some of the places the kid had scouted that seemed to have the best loot. Or, she could say, where the best merch for her store was just waiting to fall right into her grubby little hands.

She was, after all, a genuine article bad person.

Trooper Station, Friday

There was a duck in one of the holding cells when Watts arrived, and a flamingo in another. Both birds were squawking angrily at each other, loud enough to be heard throughout the entire station. Including Watts's office.

Why didn't he just let them go? Well. The log clearly said they were supposed to be on a 24 hour hold for, quote, "bird crimes". And who was he to argue with the log?

So he was just... dealing with the noise.

The gremlins were making blackout poetry today.

"You can't write in the books!"

One gremlin held up a book and showed off the DISCARD stamp inside the front cover. They weren't wrecking anything new! At least not at the moment.

"You could make copies of the pages too," Belle suggested. "If you wanted other books to use."

She was going to be keeping a close eye on those gremlins. Very close.

And maybe doing some blackout poetry of her own.

Finding (More) New Hobbies, Thursday 8/14 Period 2

Stark still, after years of associating with Summer, had no social media. He hadn’t been flooded with notifications about a new album coming. Today’s activity was completely coincidental! Really.

Sure, maybe ‘friendship bracelets’ had been higher in the search results than they might have been otherwise when Stark looked up ‘fun easy hobbies’ but he wasn’t doing this on purpose.

“Today,” Stark said, “jewelry. But nothing fancy. Beaded friendship bracelets. Sometimes these are given away or traded. Easy to do, but fun, I hope. And then you have something at the end to show for your efforts and maybe something you could give to someone. If you like.”

He smiled a little uncertainly. “I have elastic cord. You’ll want to make sure there’s enough of it so you can tie it and have it still fit on a wrist. Yours or someone else’s. I’ve plenty of beads and plenty of cord and there are scissors. Not much else you need for this.”

“I have beads with letters and numbers, if you’d like to put messages. Or something meaningful to you, or whoever you might be giving one of these too. I have star beads and ones with glitter and ones that glow in the dark and metallic ones and ones that are just plain colors. And there are some other shapes as well. I’m not sure why these,” he pointed, “look like gummi bears but they’re amusing.”

“So…let’s make some things. And if you like this you can take more supplies with you to make more another time.”

The Magpie Emporium, Thursday (8/14)

It was a fairly routine day today, as far as Steph was concerned: the regular gaming groups were all settled in at their usual tables, the mini-painting club was set up in the designated area, Little Bot patrolled the area cleaning up messes and retrieving people's dice and game pieces from beneath tables, Saffron ostentatiously ignored everyone (especially her) as she slept in the middle of the displacer beast plushies.

Well.

Except for the cacaphony coming from the gremlins' table, where the gremlins were gathered around a booklet screeching in disbelief.

Steph, trailed dutifully by Little Bot and his trusty dented Sourcebook of Intimidation, headed over to try and figure out the problem.

"Wait," she said after a minute or so of squinting at the booklet handed to her by one indignant gremlin. It was photocopied and hand-stapled, though she didn't recognize it as part of her indie games inventory. "Are... these rules telling you that... you literally can't do anything that might be implied by, oh, I don't know, your characters' entire literal role descriptions and the entire game setting?"

The gremlins all waved their hands and screeched in the affirmative at her.

"This is stupid. Go find something else to play, okay? I'll..." She glowered at the booklet in her hand. "Do something with this. God, why do I have a feeling Ainsley is partly responsible for this ridiculousness?"

Pixie Dust; Thursday [08/14].

Even though the actual time of participating was brief, Luma had been thoroughly displeased with so much about yesterday's activity, enough so that it still left her in a sour mood into that morning. Thankfully, she had work to go to, which was a gratefulness not so much for the work itself, but more for what she worked with.

Because she would work through a new shipment of items and put them on the shelves and racks, and while she was doing that, pluck out the things that caught her own eye the most and make a small pile of pretty dresses and shirts and skirts and shoes to try on for a bit of fashion therapy. She knew she couldn't really afford to go too far overboard with some new clothes, but maybe if there was one or two pieces she really liked, she could just splurge a little. It was the least the universe could do to make up for leaving her practically a drowned dog yesterday.

(Forget the fact that she could swim just fine, and she had chosen to turn into a wolf for it).

The Wonderful World of Pizza, Thursday, Period 3

"Okay, guys," Raiden announced to his class. "So far we've been to Italy, we've been mostly in North America, but this is the world of pizza, right? So today we're heading to a new continent and a new pizza scene: we're going to Japan.

""The pizza scene in Asia in general is really interesting. It's sort of a developing scene, with people trying out new forms and flavor combinations--maybe flavor combinations that make sense to the local palate, maybe just, 'What happens if we do this?'--and it leads to some really exciting ideas. And some kind of weird ones--every now and then a pizza from somewhere like Domino's Japan will go viral among Westerners like 'look at this weird pizza,' which remember: never knock it until you try it. So today we're going to go to what's considered one of the best pizzerias in Tokyo, Pizzeria da Peppe Napolistaca Kamiyacho, to try Japanese pizza out for ourselves! Let's go!"

Looks like it was a quiet day yesterday, with most of the activity being School related, Anakin moved Shenanigans over to the beach, mostly to trick passers-by into voluntolding. As for what they got voluntold into my notes just say 'YEET' in especially excited handwriting, and after the yeeting, Anakin had a nice conversation with Atton. Or at least one where they didn't get into a hair pulling fight.

Meanwhile, over in the Library, Arden was distracted by games on her phone.

Nothing much happened in the Dorms, while in Town, Adrian was in a mood at Pick Your Posion. A cleaning mood. Pamela, Rey, and Lydia all noticed this mood, so he must have been cleaning pretty thoroughly.

Lydia had sent out a message after last week's class to her Supper Club regulars, letting them know that they would not be having supper this week, but rather investigating the island's newest eatery for 'brunch.' A time had been handwavily worked out that hopefully would allow for everyone to attend, although Lydia had to go and eat pizza after this, the poor dear.

She was in a splendid mood this morning, as she would soon be visiting a magical marketplace! Oh, it was evil, to be sure, but magic! Shopping! What wasn't there to be excited about?

It was rather unfortunate that their schedule meant they'd missed Will it Waffle? Wednesday, as that sounded like an intriguing occasion, but perhaps she could visit some other time.

The Park, Thursday Afternoon

Yeah. So. Talking to someone about the whole Jedi-rebuilding thing. Great idea. Good way to actually be helpful. It was fine! Fine.

Jack had even curated a whole thrash metal playlist for the morning and the walk here just to get him into the right fine mindset (nothing cured insecurity like some Anthr-- okay, maybe the phrasing wasn't great on that one), but of course someone's musical tastes had completely ruined his algorithm. By the time he was actually walking to the park - early, way too early - the playlist had finished and he had Tim McIlrath sing-yelling Are we not good enough? Are we not brave enough? Is the violence in our nature just the image of our maker? in his ears, memories of the weekend dancing around in his head.

He sat down on the bench. Set his lightsabers down beside him, and then - after a moment - reached up to take out the earbud. "We're not stories, we're not actors, we're awake and in control," he mumbled to himself. And then a few more times, for good measure.

Okay? Okay.

Time to wait for Rey.

Steven had enjoyed his camping trip with Llewellyn. Longer than before, not too long as a whole. Even so, something about coming home yesterday had felt right. Like there was extra reason to pat the walls and tell Midnight it was doing a good job being a home. It was loved and where it was meant to be.

Strange. Couldn't possibly imagine why. Some quirk of the multiverse, perhaps.

Regardless, Steven did manage to leave said home - and his comfy bed with a proper mattress - to come into work. Which was where he was, in his usual spot behind the Welcome Desk, barring interruptions for things like his class with Stark in the morning.
