Room 322, Monday Afternoon

Anders was, of course, doing something highly important in his room after class. Something with charts and graphs and all kinds of spectacular magic.

... or he was lying on his bed, idly singing at his cat and half-watching a cooking show. (Dante had sold him on Food Truck wars, and now the taco truck was in the finale. It was of course vital Anders found out who won.)

Probably the latter thing, really. He wasn't much for highly important magic these days.

"But chocolate," Anders argued, still in favor of the Mexican food truck. "And those fried churro things. I would pass on strawberries for that."

"I don't know you," Dante decided (while toying idly with Anders' hair, of course). "Sundae's sugar on sugar on sugar on strawberries. Churros are like a weirdly-shaped sandwich."

"You're insane," Anders said sweetly, twisting his neck a bit to encourage Dante to keep playing with his hair. "Sundaes are fine, but churros are nice and crispy."

"Somebody dropped you on your head as a kid, right?" Dante asked, sliding his thumb over the nape of Anders' neck for a second. "Crispy pizza, great. Crispy bacon, awesome. But who wants 'crispy' in a fucking desert?"

"If anybody was dropped on their head, it was you," Anders said, after a pleased little sigh at the pressure on his neck. "Crispy cookies are the best type. Or pie crust. Or the brownies from the edge of the pan."

"Scratch that. You gotta be hitting yourself on the head with that staff on the regular," Dante said, mouth curving a bit at that little sigh. His fingers kept moving gently, trailing over the skin of Anders' neck before passing back into his hair. "It's the gooey bits that are the good parts. Like... one of those big raspberry cheesecake cookies that's still warm inside."

Damn it. His JGoB bag was too far away.

"You should quit drinking," Anders bickered amiably, fingers trailing over Dante's stomach. "It's messing with your perceptions. Those cheesecake cookies are only good because the crispy and the gooey mix."

A pause. "Churros dipped in a strawberry sundae would be good."

'You should quit drinking' was a great way to remind Dante that he still had an open beer bottle in the hand he wasn't currently touching Anders with. So he brought it to his mouth and took a big gulp before answering.

"That does sound good," he mused. "And here I was just thinking we should find one of those restaurants that does those giant skillet cookies sometime. Bet it'd be fun to split that."

"It would," Anders said absently, distracted by the business of finding and drinking from his own beer. "Do you know anyplace that has them? I've only seen pictures."

"I dunno," Dante said. His hand slid out of Anders' hair, groping around for his phone instead. He held it up and ran a quick search.

"...Here," he said, holding the phone up for Anders a moment later.

"Sweet Andraste's ass," Anders cursed. The muffin in his hand suddenly seemed entirely unsatisfactory. "Why isn't that in my mouth right now?"

"'Cause then we'd have to move," Dante mused. Thoughtfully. "We should hit the town again sometime. No offense to JGoB, but shitting hell."

"No, moving would be bad," Anders agreed, stretching against Dante a little. "But we definitely need to go for dessert soon."

It wasn't a date. You didn't date your roommate.

Nah. You just happened to go to dinner at the same time.

"I wonder if there's good dessert places in Baltimore," Dante mused. "Or DC."

"I can find out," Anders said, and turned to tap at the phone on the nightstand.

When he lifted his head, it was with new intensity in his eyes.

"... Dante, there's a cat cafe in DC."

Dante blinked. "...A what?"

"A cat cafe," Anders repeated, shoving the phone at Dante. "Look, you make a reservation and then you go and eat and enjoy the cats."

This was paradise, clearly.

Dante snagged the phone and eyed it. "... Huh," he said.

He took a swig of his beer.

"So I guess that's a thing we're doing."

Look, he'd met his roommate. And Anders covered in cats would be adorable hilarious, if nothing else.

"Just as soon as we can get away with it," Anders agreed serenely. "All the cats are up for adoption, too. Maybe Lachlan needs a brother."

Lachlan needed no such thing, and Anders liked to push his luck.

"Hey now," said Dante, who was probably the worst person alive to turn to if you needed a whim shot down, "Maybe he wants a girlfriend."

Absolute. Worst.

"We had to agree to have him neutered to adopt him," Anders said apologetically. "Having a girlfriend might just get frustrating."

Dante shrugged. "So get him a nice spayed girlfriend," he said. "Who wants kittens anyway?"

... Anders. Anders would've probably wanted kittens.

"I do," Anders said, obviously enough. "But it's probably a bad idea in a room this size."

He sighed and sat up enough to sip at his beer. "Someday when I've got my own house, I'll have dozens of cats. Scads."

Dante laughed softly. "Anders, cat guy," he said. "I can see it. Bet you'd be happy too."

"Probably," Anders admitted with a soft chuckle, and turned his head to study Dante. "What about you?" he asked. "What would you do, if you could do anything?"
