Chez Dante & Anders, Limbo City, Monday Morning

After two weeks of luxury, coming home felt strange. On the one hand, having to pick his own socks off the floor and pour his own cereal into the bowl felt even more burdensome than usual.

On the other ... it was nice not to have to worry about getting hauled into whimsical alien jail if the person he had been mistaken for showed up. That made up for a lot of annoying daily chores.

He'd done some laundry that morning, with only a few giant sighs along the way, and lugged the basket into the living room to fold while he watched some soothing TV. The first channel he turned on was showing a special about imaginary animals, which was enough to have him sighing at the screen even more loudly.

"Why is everything mythical here?" he asked thin air. "It's probably for the good of everyone they don't have to worry about dragons, but they should at least have a few phoenix or deepstalkers somewhere."

Dante laughed softly, surprised. "Really?"

He knew it was a big deal to Kathy, but Anders...

"Of course, really," Anders said, also laughing. He sounded slightly less dazed then he had a moment before -- a side effect of trying to put the words together. "I don't think anyone's ever called himself my boyfriend before. Or not regularly, anyhow. At home we'd say lover if we said anything, and mostly we don't talk about it. So the fact you want to say it ... it means something."

"It means you're my boyfriend," Dante said, fond if still a little thrown - in a good way. "You're the guy I wanna come home to every day, no matter what else happens."

"I like that," Anders said, nuzzling against Dante's arm. "And for me, you're the one who makes wherever we are feel like home."

A pause. "Look at us getting all soppy and sentimental."

"'sokay, Kathy's not here to call us on it," Dante said, winking at him.

He pressed a kiss against Anders' temple.

"I think she knows by now that we're both giant softies," Anders said, tangling his fingers in Dante's hair. "Even if we hide it with our cool, mature exteriors."

"Yeah, but plausible deniability, man," Dante joked. He smiled. "Not that these past few weeks weren't great," he said, "But I was kinda looking forward to us getting back to putting down a life here. It's cool and exciting and shit."

"It feels like we're moving forward, doesn't it?" Anders asked softly. "Like ... we're finally living our real lives instead of waiting for something to happen."

Dante nodded. "Like there's space for us to go somewhere at all," he said. "I mean, I thought I'd feel better. I didn't think I'd feel this much better."

"Where do you think we'll end up?" Anders wondered idly. "I mean, in five years. Will we still be here?"

He ... kind of hoped they would.

"I wanna be here," Dante mused thoughtfully. "I want you to own your own clinic and be awesome at it. I want Kathy to live here with us."

He shrugged.

"I bought this place," he said. "We can be here for decades."

"I'd like that," Anders agreed. "Just ... a family. Making everything in the city a little bit better, as much as we could."

He gave Dante a shy look. "I'd like to own a clinic. Maybe once I know the people here as little better I can get that started."

"And I'm gonna back you up every step of the way," Dante promised. He pressed a kiss against Anders' cheek. "You'll be badass."
