Grand Canyon, Arizona, Monday Evening
May. 8th, 2017 10:38 pmThe trip from New Orleans had been long and dull, and Anders had wondered more than once whether driving all the way across the country had been a stupid idea. Somehow looking at the map hadn't made it clear how much of it there was, or how many miles were just interstates and strip malls. (Ferelden didn't have either, but even for Anders that didn't make them particularly novel to look at after the first few dozen.)
The only interesting thing that happened along the way was when Dante let him drive early one morning ... and promptly revoked the privilege when Anders showed more than the usual degree of uncertainty as to which was his lane and almost got sideswiped by a station wagon.
But everything was worth it when they made it to the southwest. Anders couldn't stop staring out the window at the mountains -- they were easily the biggest thing he'd ever seen, and the most beautiful. Though the latter descriptor was swiftly overwritten when they made it to the Grand Canyon. All he wanted to do was stand at the edge staring at the multicolored rocks for days and days.
He reached to grab Dante's hand, grateful someone else was seeing it too.
