"Let's talk about nutrition," Don said to his students today. "Now, this is a complicated area of study, because scientists are discovering new things all the time, and there's a lot of bad information out there besides. Also, everyone's nutritional needs are different, whether that's from one human to another or from one species to another. Thor, for instance, needs to eat a lot more calories than I do, because the Aesir are three times as dense as humans, and that's a lot of mass to maintain. But for the most part, you should try to eat a balance of carbohydrates, protein, and fats. You should try to eat some plants. Plants are good for you. Ideally you should eat less processed foods, things that are made from recognizable ingredients, but I feel like a hypocrite telling you that after the way I ate during my residency."

Don passed out a handout on the subject. "There's more in depth information here, but again, these are more rules than guidelines. You need to do what works best for you. But eat some plants, seriously."

Gray was losing the war for Christmas. For now. Soon enough Thanksgiving there would be over and there would be no stopping the onslaught of Yuletide cheer.

At least that was what he told himself when the workers at Over Easy once again refused to put up a tree yet, because the boss would look unhappy at them. They just needed a few thousand years to build up immunity to that look, was all.

Hello everyone! It's time to weetiny! Students, teachers, and townies alike will wake up as pint-sized versions of themselves next weekend, from Saturday November 15th through Monday November 17th.

A quick reminder about how this works:

- Participation is completely optional.
- If you choose to participate, your character needs to wake up as a kid (ages 4-10) on Saturday morning and stay that way the whole weekend until waking up back to normal on Tuesday morning.
- The kids won't be terrified to wake up in Fandom, due to the wackiness. It's more like they've always been here.
- Clothing will be shrunk down as well, and all the weapons will turn into toys so no one can hurt themselves accidentally.
- This is open to alumni and expats as well!

Time to go hunting for stock photos of small children, pics of your PB as a child actor, or screencaps from a flashback episode! Questions, comments, witty stories?

Good morning, it’s Wednesday as usual and I’m here, as usual.

3 notes from the school today. Reclaiming Your Childhood made artwork featuring glitter. Of course there was glitter. Diplomacy watched a movie about a girl and a giant robot who is also a car and I have no idea what that has to do with diplomacy but that’s fine. Sometimes you need a movie day. And my class on Dealing With Other People’s Trauma discussed veterans and the effects of war on people.

The porg isn’t even here today so I assume there are no notes from the dorms. I hope he’s all right.

Just a small number of notes from the town from yesterday. Gregorith, who I haven’t met yet, wasn’t feeling well. Hopefully he improves soon. And finally Marc went to the Perk for coffee and baked goods and apparently conversation though I doubt he really planned on that part. Henry shared her glitter and Marc shared his baked goods while they talked. And then I came in and got coffee as well but I did not take any of the baked goods. We just talked a bit and I'm now wondering if I ought to be frightened of beavers...

And that’s all I have from yesterday for today.

Adrian was flipping through an ecological magazine he'd snagged while out on the mainland. There was an article about turning recycled plastics into clothing, which seemed cool on the surface until you realized that once the plastics got turned into clothing, they couldn't be recycled again. With a small chuckle, he left a Post-It with Check this out, Pam! tucked into the magazine, already imagining her reaction.

Sometimes, the thing you needed to get back onto an even keel is just some light, good-natured trolling of your boss.

Huh. There were a bunch of music books out around the library. Arden found one for guitars, basses, drums, even keyboards. Books about music, books teaching people how to play the instruments, books about caring and maintaining them. Even books about cutting a demo and sending it around to record labels.

Arden wasn't sure if the gremlins were starting a band, or there was something else in the library that was thinking about it (possibly even the library itself?), but all afternoon she heard strains of music coming from different areas, sometimes just warmup exercises and chords, sometimes whole songs.

Couldn't find the musicians when she went looking for them, of course. But could definitely hear them.

"Hey!" she called at one point. "Seven Nation Army?"

A long moment of silence, and from over near the biographies section, the slow reverberations of a bass guitar. Bum bum buuuummm bum bum babummmmm...

It had happened earlier that morning, like a promise of all the mornings ahead where they'd be roughly pulled out of sleep by the demands of a tiny little human, but Prompto was ready, he was preparing for this since....well, all of last month, really, so getting Liz to the hospital to have their baby went....

Well, he wouldn't use the word smoothly, there was no small amount of chaos, but it did go quickly, and then once there? It was just a matter of time and a lot of anxious pacing on Prompto's part and a lot of...well...a lot more work on Liz's. And a lot of questions from Noctra that Prompto thought he'd be prepared for, but...well...there was just a lot going on, okay, interspersed with moment of waiting that made for an interesting juxtaposition.

Finally, though, he was able to send out the text announcement to friends and family that he'd been itching to send out since...well, all of last month, really:

Welcome to the world
Trevor Corleonis Argentum!!!

He, of course, included loads of pictures of the wrinkly little boy, especially with his proud mama and very uncertain looking big sister, and mentioned how everything had gone really well, hospital room information if anyone wanted to swing by with well-wishes or whatever else, and then he was going to be completely over the moon over this new additional bright light in their lives.

[[ definitely open for visits, responses, whatever else! ]]

Hello everyone! It's time again for applications!

To apply, read the following information, click the link to the application form, fill it out for the character you want to play, and send it off!

The basics you need to know )

* At this point, the school is now officially a collegiate setting. All student applications must be for college students or grad students.

* Teachers are required to teach at least one class/workshop per week, and be accessible to students when needed. This also applies for characters applying to teach an adult class at the Community Center, rather than one at the school.

* If you would like to apply for a new character to teach an adult workshop, fill out the Character Application exactly as if you were applying for a teacher, but mark it "Townie" instead. Note in the Course Description that it would be an adult workshop, not a student workshop. Because of the need to keep track of the adult workshops being offered and start them at the same time, these applications will be processed on the same schedule as student/teacher applications.

* Current townies or teachers can also apply to teach an adult workshop. If you would like to teach an adult workshop with a current character, you can fill out a limited application by following the instructions here.

* See this post for more about character activity.

* All accepted characters go on probation for the first month. After that time, if there's anyone who's disappeared or is causing problems, we'll talk to them about it and possibly discuss removal from the game. It's very difficult to get to the removal stage.

* Improvisation. Fandom High is a balance between planning and improvisation. Some people plan plots, but a lot of the day-to-day stuff is purely improvisation where you throw a bunch of characters together and see what happens.

What’s needed to apply )
Early applications )
What happens once you’ve applied )
Notes for Current Players )
Notes for New Players )

Application Form (This is a GDoc whose text you can paste into an e-mail or attach as a txt file, then send to us at fandomhighadmins dot iambicnut dot com.)

You only need to fill out the parts that are relevant to the type of character you are applying for (ie: if you're a student applicant, don't fill in the stuff marked 'Townies Only').

If you don't get a confirmation email from us within 24 hours, please email us!

Applications close December 7th at 11:59pm Eastern. The next application session for students and teachers after this will be for the Summer session in April!

Got a question? We're here to answer it!

A feeling Marc was going to chalk up to restlessness had him doing a walk around the island with no particular goal in mind other than to walk around the island.

Once the path brought him by the Perk, he figured what the hell. Grab a coffee and maybe a box of something to leave in the boarding house kitchen for whoever wanted anything.

Marc wasn't examining that instinct too closely either.

(Obviously he would get something for Watts and Steven too. That part went without saying.)

He was in no rush, though, so he grabbed a coffee and a muffin for himself and took a seat at a table by the windows. Then, long as he was taking a load off, he got out his phone to text Crawley to see how things were back home.

“Today is a holiday, here,” Stark said. “Not a festive one but one to remember. For veterans. People who have been in the military. Maybe ones who have been in wars. Seen fighting. Seen dying. Seen things that do not leave you, even with time.”

“I know something of that. Not the military. I was never a soldier. But I was in battles and wars and I’ve seen so much suffering at those times and after those times were over, or at least stopped.”

Stark paused for a moment to look around. “Sometimes…sometimes soldiers, or anyone who was harmed by a war, and everyone does get harmed when there is a war affecting them…sometimes it’s a specific sort of trauma that affects those people. From the death or the pain or the fear or all of it. Sometimes from doing things they wish they had never had to do. Things that are regretted. Things that are repressed.”

“I don’t know if any of you have been soldiers or have seen war. I don’t need to know. You don’t need to say but you can if you like. You never have to talk but you can always choose to, with me, here. So…we could talk without mentioning anything of yourselves, if you like. Just hypotheticals. Or whatever you like. But we should talk of ways trauma from war might be different from other traumas. Or the same. Let’s just…discuss that.”

Or not. He was not going to force anyone to speak. That would be absurd.

“Or I can talk about things I’ve seen. Soldiers I’ve known. Others.”

Students had been handwavily told to report to Ghanima's classroom for once, and when they arrived, they would find it filled to the brim with fall-themed craft supplies.

"Apologies for the missed classes," Ghanima said briskly, once everyone had arrived. "I was recalled to Arrakis for an issue of great political importance that required both the Empress of the Imperium and her Heir to be in attendance."

An heir who...was not here. Ghanima was teaching solo today, no Trebor running around to help, and her crispness suggested she was Not Pleased about that fact.

Politics.

"Today, we we will be dabbling into arts and crafts," she continued. "Many American children have the ritual of making 'turkey art' this time of year, tracing their hands to draw or paint a turkey, representing the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday."

"However, given you all have a bit more manual dexterity than that, we will be making fall wreaths or door basket."

"In the northern hemisphere of this planet, now is the time for various fall harvest festivals. This period tends to range from late-August to the end of November, and can encompass a wide-range of activities. Lammas, Sukkot, Mehrgan, Onam, American Thanksgiving, the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival -- or Moon Festival -- Dożynki, and the Niiname-no-Matsuri are all examples of this tradition."

"Well, we had an entire class prepared with monster trucks, but then my sons used them over the weekend and now they're modified so only Force-sensitive people can drive them without killing themselves, so we'll table that until I have time to fix them back," Anakin said with a slight grimace. "I apologize."

Ahsoka wasn't saying anything, but she did look far too amused. "So instead we'll be looking at the importance of communication and how it can bring together people by letting them focus on their similarities rather than their differences." Like say one of them being a teenage girl and the other a giant robot.

One of these days Anakin would check the movie Ahsoka picked for class, but it wasn't today! "That sounds like a very diplomatic thing to learn."

If she picked something suitable, then the island would intervene anyway, so this was just skipping the middleman. "I thought so," Ahsoka said as she started the movie.

"Well, this will be something," Anakin said dryly.

What up, island? It's me, ya girl Arden Finch, coming at you with all the news of yesterday. At the School, Flight and Flying had a movie day, and we got to watch what a very heterosexual volleyball scene. Just like, so straight, honest. Cryptozoology covered the history of the Jersey devil, which seems to be, 'some people saw something sometimes.' And then How Not To Drown started learning the butterfly by riding around on pool noodles. That sounds like...an interesting way to learn.

No Dorms, but in Town, Mr. Scientia was sending out invitations for Professor Vess' birthday party. And getting that invitation sent Professor Sims to the Infinite Consortium to ask Professor Vess what she'd like for a present. Dr. Isley spent her afternoon in Pick Your Poison working on her garden, save for a visit from Rey checking in on her and making sure she was all right. Over at the Clinic, Professor James Stark had winter coffees and was looking over his invitation to Professor Vess' birthday party.

And that's all that happened yesterday, so this is ya girl, Arden Finch, signing off! Have a great day, Fandom, and enjoy Inertia by SawanoHiroyuki[nZk] ft. Rei. Bye!

It was one of those days there every little thing was going wrong, and then Jaina set up the Danger Shop, only for it to glitch and lose the program without time to fix it.

So she'd sent messages and stuck a sign on the door directing students to the actual classroom, where she'd wheeled out the TV. "It's been a day, so you're getting a movie," she said. "Enjoy. It's cued up so that you'll definitely get the volleyball scene within the class period."

What.

Stark had winter coffees today even though it was definitely not winter. He didn't mind. He liked the peppermint coffees. With extra whipped cream, of course.

"Was his video a success?" Stark asked, glancing at Stabby's tank.

"He was gone all day Saturday. Who knows?"

Stabby, for his part, was currently just hanging out in his tank. With a crab-sized novel.

Stark was looking over the invitation for the party. Possibly a more engrossing read than Stabby's novel.

The clinic was open, the crab was reading something, and the alien was in.

It was a much rejuvenated Pam who opened up Pick Your Poison on that Monday morning, having spent much of Sunday back in Slaughter Swamp. Harley-her-Harley had shown up with gardening supplies, and they'd made good work that day.

It wasn't like she expected Harley to commit to gardening for long. It was Harley. But the day had made her happy.

And now she was back here, setting the shop to rights. Looking at everything on the shelves with new eyes. Around noon, she stole into the garden at last and took her shoes off, putting her feet in the dirt.

There'd been a lot of damage done here, too. She was going to enjoy spending the rest of her day coaxing it all back to life.

Today's shipment was already in the display window, a truly fascinating pair of leather gloves. Well, okay, one of the gloves was in the window; she was currently studying the other in an attempt to puzzle out the glyphs and runes that had been inscribed into them. She had a basic idea of what they did, but that wasn't anywhere near the same as knowing precisely what each rune did, and how, and why.

Flyers weren't really Ignis's style, but invitations...now, those were a far more fitting method of spreading the news about an upcoming party, in his opinion, and more appropriate for the type of party it was, anyway. An invitation (especially a well-made one, expensive, though certainly worth the cost in this instance) was far more personal, could be held, with the weight of the exquisite paper it was printed on, durable and with an almost velvet-like finish, better appreciated. With careful, embossed text, raised just enough that one could follow the graceful shape of the letters by running their fingers over it. Details in sumptuous gold, rich purple, striking black. Even from the envelope, there would surely be no doubt as to what the contents inside might pertain to, but upon opening it, it would be confirmed:

Ignis Scientia
cordially invites you to celebrate
Liliana Vess
for her upcoming birthday
(As if we would even need a reason)

SATURDAY 15 NOVEMBER 2025
at the Mansion in the Woods

Please join us for an afternoon of fine food, wine and company
And an evening of excellent music and dancing

Dress to Impress | Presents Encouraged
555-CHEF for any questions

Hopefully, each invitation would find their way to every intended invitee, which was, of course, everyone.

And, surely, nothing could happen that weekend to throw a wrench in these plans...
