Explorean Cozumel, Cozumel, Mexico

It had been a bright, clear morning when Anders and Kathy got into the portal in Fandom, and it remained bright and clear when they stumbled out of the Portalocity terminal attached to the Explorean resort.

But Mexico was hotter -- much hotter -- and the water was a clear aqua, instead of the muddy gray of Fandom's bay. Anders sighed in pleasure as he reached for Kathy's hand.

"I can already tell this is going to be a very relaxing two weeks."

Kathy obligingly tilted her face towards him, angling her body towards his. "Pretty sure I can do that," she said with a wicked smile. "Might already have a few in mind."

"Oh really," Anders said, in between kisses. "You;re going to have to tell me all about them once we're in the hut."

"Cabana!" Kathy protested, breaking off a kiss to giggle at him before leaning in to claim another one in its place. "'Hut' makes it sound like we're going to be living in a one-room shack made from reeds or something."

She gave him another kiss, one deep enough to make her toes curl in the sand. "This one has plenty of rooms for us to debauch, or so the website says."

"Sorry," Anders said. "I wouldn't want to hurt the cabana's feelings by calling it a hut."

He leaned forward, resting his forehead against Kathy's. and his hands at her waist.

"Thank you so much for agreeing to come with me," Kathy whispered. "For wanting to come with me."

She'd been missing Anders, as odd as that sounded. Hopefully, this trip would give them a chance to reconnect.

"Sorry for making you think I might not," Anders answered, after a pause. "I know I've been a little ... distant, lately. It wasn't about you."

"Just working through some stuff?" Kathy asked, hoping that her tone would convey that she was happy to serve as a sounding board if he wanted to, but that she was also willing to back off if he didn't.

"More or less," Anders nodded. "Trying to make some kind of plan for the rest of my life. It's not going particularly well, by the way."

"I get that," Kathy said wryly. "Neither's mine."

What with the aforementioned anxiety and all.

"Trying to figure out what you want out of life? Let me tell you, sex hoboing sounds really enticing."

"Sex hobo is my main career plan at the moment," Anders nodded. "Maybe house-boy if I'm feeling ambitious."

"If you're looking for work experience, you can always try out cabana boying this week and see how you like it," Kathy offered. "I mean, I'm here for you if this is something you wish to explore."

"It's so nice to have a supportive girlfriend," Anders sighed. "I'm a very lucky man."

"I just want you to live your dreams," Kathy said, with more sincerity than their teasing really called for. "And if I can help with that, I'm happy."

Beat.

"Especially if it involves being naked."

"Me being naked, or you being naked?" Anders asked, as a point of clarification. He'd disentangled from her enough to start walking toward the cabana again, still holding her hand.

"Porque no los dos?" Kathy asked with a laugh. "All the best times are when we're naked together."

For all that the cabana was on the smallish size, the bathroom and bedroom were huge. There was a second door to the bedroom as well that opened directly to their private section of the beach. The bed was maybe a hundred yards to the blue-green ocean, with white sand between.

"Ohhh..." Kathy sighed. "I could get used to this."

"Don't you want to at least try the bath before you make that decision?" Anders asked as he flopped onto the bed. "Or is it just obvious?"

"I mean, the tub would have to be pretty terrible to take away from the whole tropical beach paradise aspect of this," Kathy pointed out, laying down next to him. She propped her head on on her hand, her dark hair spilling back down over her arms to the bed. "I could probably throw a rock from where we are and have it land in the ocean. Unless the tub is an old tin can with water in it, I'm pretty sure we're good."

"I've never seen water that color," Anders said in dreamy agreement. "Maybe we can turn into mermaids and never leave."

Somewhere, Ada was making a face at that, but Kathy was still completely ignorant of their friend's aquatic nature. "You'd have a pretty green tail you'd flick flirtatiously at everyone on the beach," she informed him, with a smacking kiss on his cheek. Mwah! "They'd have to post warning signs about following the handsome merman too far into the ocean, just to keep the stupid tourists from drowning."

"I'd sing them to their doom anyhow," said Anders, who knew about Ada but wasn't thinking of her just then. "Merman me would be a terrible bastard."

"And what would mermaid me be like?" Kathy asked. "Would I try to save those poor saps you were luring to their deaths?"

"Oh, I think so," Anders said airily. "I'd have to get clever and distract you by telling you where you could find hidden treasures. You'd spend hours diving for those."

"I think you just called your girlfriend a literal gold digger," Kathy said, dissolving into laughter. "Be still my heart, you charmer."

He was getting another kiss for making her laugh, though her giggles probably kept it from being properly sexy.

"A gold diver," Anders said, before he started giggling too. "It's much higher-class."

Kissing and giggling went together well, it turned out.

"Oh, well at least I'm classy," Kathy murmured, before turning it into an altogether proper kiss.

Or, well, an altogether improper one, depending on your point of view.
